작가소개

백경원은 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 도예가이다.
흙을 손으로 쌓고 꼬집어 형태를 만드는 핸드빌딩 기법으로 그릇과 오브제를 만들고 있다.
하나의 단어를 떠올리고, 그것이 불러일으키는 심상을 몇가지 기하 도형의 조합, 혹은 구상적인 형태의 추상화 또는 해체의 방법으로 표현한다.
대략적인 이미지를 바탕으로 작업에 임하지만, 핸드빌딩 작업의 즉흥적이고 직관적인 특성에 따라 종종 예상치 못한 결과물을 얻기도 한다.



Baek, Kyungwon is a pottery artist based in Seoul.
She makes bowls and objects using the hand-building technique of pinching.
She thinks of a word, then combines geometric shapes to match it or expresses it using abstract shapes and dismantling.
She has a rough idea of what she wants to make before beginning her work but sometimes ends up with unexpected results because hand-building is a spontaneous process.



작품설명

작가는 2014년 덴마크 굴라야고 레지던시에서 6개월간 레지던시 입주 작가로 활동했다.
머무는 동안 수집한 교회건물의 형상, 오래된 건물의 지붕 그리고 기계장치 같은 형태들에서 영감을 받아, 기(vessel)의 모습을 한 오브제 작업을 하였다.
관람자에게 기시감을 주면서 동시에 낯선 느낌을 줄 수 있기를 바란다.



She worked as a residential artist in Gulayago, Denmark for a period of six months in 2014.
She was inspired by the shapes of church buildings, roofs of old buildings, and objects collected during her stay.
Today, she makes objects such as vessels and hopes to give visitors both a sense of déjà vu and a strange feeling at the same time.
