악기를 다루는 연주자들이 연주를 자유자재로 하기까지 수많은 연습이 필요하듯, 재료의 물성을 이해하고
그에 맞는 기술을 체득하기 위해서는 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 ‘생각하는 손’을 통해 재료를 탐구하고 연습하는 과정이 필요하다.
‘생각하는 손’이란 물성을 탐구하는 손과 뇌의 활동이 연결되어 있다는 사회학자 리차드 세넷의 이론으로,
우리는 이에 깊이 공감하여 백자의 물성을 중심으로 작업을 하고 있다.
강원도 양구에서 백자 작업실 ‘스튜디오 소만’을 운영하고 있으며, 컨템포러리 크래프트 오브제와
컨템포러리 아트 설치작업, 일상사물, 디자인 개발, 공공미술 프로젝트 등 공예, 예술, 디자인 분야를 넘나 들며 활동 중이다.
일상과 맞닿아 있는 사물들이 삶을 풍요롭고 아름답게 만든다는 신념으로 백자의 단단함과
백색의 단아함을, 섬세함과 예리함의 밀도를 구현함으로써 직관적인 아름다움에 다가가고 있다.

"thinking hands" over a longperiod to understand the properties of the materials and acquire the appropriate skills.
The "thinking hand" is the theory of sociologist Richard Sennett that the activity of the hand and brain are connected to explore physical properties.
We deeply sympathize with this and work on the physical properties of white porcelain. We run a white porcelain workshop called "Studio Soman" in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do.
We are active in the fields of crafts, art, and design, such as modern crafts and modern art installation, daily supplies, design development, and public art projects.
